pearls of wisdom to encourage you and give you hope and inspiration

Each morning as the tide receded, a young boy would walk along the beach picking up starfish from the drying sand. Abandoned by the water, the starfish were sure to die in the growing heat. So the boy would toss each starfish he came upon back into the cool and calming waves.

A passerby shook his head at the boy’s slow pursuit and grunted, "Don’t bother, child. There are thousands of those starfish. They go on for miles. You cannot possibly make a difference throwing them back into the ocean."

But the boy picked up another starfish, looked at it thoughtfully and remarked as he tossed it back into the sea, "It made a difference to that one."

Of course we can't help in every case, but be encouraged to open your heart and help where you can. No gift given in Jesus' name is ever too small.

'Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn't help you?'

Smile of a Child

Posted July 20, 2006.

Since being healed from Cancer, Jan Crouch has dedicated herself to making a difference in the lives of the people of Haiti. A major project is building a much needed hospital. Please visit her 'Smile of a Child' website and consider even a small gift--it can make a difference. Consider matching the cost of your next meal out. Every day shaved off the completion date means the difference in a life as children die daily for lack of basic medical care.

Thornton, Arkansas Poor
JoAnn Cayce Charities

Posted July 22, 2006

JoAnn Cayce Charities for over half a century has often been the only salvation for the homeless and hungry in rural Arkansas where there are no soup kitchens, shelters, or transportation to jobs in these areas, and many of the poorest never have the basic necessities.

Author Joan Anderson read about JoAnn's endeavors in the early '90s and now sends updates periodically to her mailing list  as to the current needs. I will post them here as I receive them.

Ongoing needs:

Men and women's coats.
Children's sox, shoes, underwear, coats.
Toys.
Baby clothes.
Soap, toothbrushes and other hygiene products.
Gift Certificates from Wal-Mart are used for food.

Garage sale items are most welcomed (please send only gently-used items). And when it's time to clean out your child's room of toys they've outgrown, perhaps you could send them off for kids in this poverty-stricken rural area of Arkansas. For just the cost of UPS, you can make a huge difference.

JoAnn does not  have a website. You can mail items to her at:
